Storage Policy

  • Make Nashville provides  a space where members modify, repair or create objects and/or works of art. The Make Nashville premises is not intended to be used as storage of members' personal property, e.g. raw materials, finished projects, works-in-progress, vehicles, trash, or any other personal property. In short, Make Nashville is a making space, not a storage space.
  • A member may bring personal property into the space, but it needs to leave with them when they leave for the day. While there are exceptions as outlined below, there can be no storage of personal property at Make Nashville.
  • Personal property found to be stored at Make Nashville that has not been authorized by the Board, Facilities Committee, through functional area policy, or as listed in the exceptions below, risks being considered abandoned and as such may be designated for use by the organization or removed from the premises, with owners incurring any expense required to deal with the abandoned property.

Exceptions

  • In all exception cases, Make Nashville shall have no responsibility, financial or otherwise, for the maintenance or security of any member’s personal property. The member assumes all risk associated with storage of their personal property on the premises.

Storage Bins

Personal property may be stored in bins (to be kept in an area designated by Make Nashville) for a fee of $10/month for a large bin (up to 27 gallons) and $5/month for a smaller bin (up to 12 gallons), with a limit of one bin per member. Members are responsible for purchasing their own bins.

Woodshop

A member may store works-in-progress (projects) in designated areas for up to 30 days. All such projects must bear a label stating the name and contact information of the owner along with the date on which the item has been stored. Illegible labels or labels without complete information will be assumed to have expired, regardless of the date. After 30 days, the project must be removed from the premises unless a documented extension is approved by the shop captain. Labeled projects remaining in woodshop storage areas 30 days after the date on the label may be disposed of with or without notification of the member.  Unidentified projects may be disposed of at any time.

Metalshop

A member may store works-in-progress (projects) in designated areas for up to 30 days. All such projects must bear a label stating the name and contact information of the owner along with the date on which the item has been stored. After 30 days, the project must be removed from the premises, unless an extension is approved by the shop captain. Unidentified projects and labeled projects remaining 30 days after the date on the label may be disposed of with or without notification of the member.

Ceramics Studio

Make Nashville members may rent individual Ceramics Studio shelves for storage of ongoing projects and personal property for a monthly fee of $10 per full shelf and $5 per half shelf by filling out a request and survey found in the “Options” section of the Membership page on the Make Nashville website. Payment will be automatically debited from the payment method designated by the member. Members who do ‘’not’’ opt to rent an individual shelf may store projects on designated “General Storage Shelves”  as space may permit and with the understanding that other people who use the studio may move or otherwise handle their wares without their permission. After firing, ware will be placed on studio shelves labeled “For Pick Up” and should be claimed by the project owner as soon as possible but   within 10 days at the latest. Projects not claimed within 10 days will be removed to a designated “waiting area” for an additional 10 days, after which they will  be considered abandoned and subject to removal as determined by the Ceramics Studio Captain or designated member.

Autoshop

A member’s vehicle brought into the Makerspace auto bay may remain in the building only while actively being worked on, ‘’but in no case may it remain overnight.’’ Vehicles transferred to the parking lot after work in the auto bay or otherwise brought onto the premises must leave when the member leaves that day, but if this is not technically possible  they must be removed from the premises within 24 hours. Vehicles in violation of this policy will incur a $35/day parking fee for up to 10 days. After 10 days, the vehicle will be towed off the premises at the member’s expense.

3D Printing

Raw materials used for a 3D printing session may be stored on the premises while the print is in progress. A member’s filament that is not being currently used for a print may be appropriated for use by Make Nashville or by other members or it may be disposed of.

Visual Arts

There is no storage available in the Visual Arts Studio, except that some unfinished projects may be left in designated racks with the permission of the Studio Captain. All such items must be labeled per the Captains instructions and removed upon request of the captain. Otherwise, members may use equipment at the studio but must take all their own materials home and leave the equipment in good condition and stored appropriately in the studio.

Textile Arts

There is no storage available in the Textile/Fabric Arts Studio. Members may use equipment at the Studio but must take all materials home and leave the equipment they used in good condition and stored appropriately in the studio.

Improvements to the space

Make Nashville lacks  many of the tools required for making improvements to the space or not enough of them to simultaneously supply both the needs of members and the improvement work being done. In these cases, members may supplement Make Nashville’s tool inventory with their personal tools and store them on-site until the improvement work is complete.

Tools on Loan

Generally, Make Nashville would prefer to own the tools on the premises. However, there may be situations where tool loans are appropriate. Members may store privately owned tools on the premises, so long as those tools are also available for use by the membership and there is good reason to have the tools in the space. Shop captains will decide on the suitability of loaned tools for their functional areas. A tool loan agreement must be signed by the member.

Leased Spaces

Members who lease private “studio space”  may store personal property in their leased space so long as it does not create unsafe conditions, interfere with the operation of Make Nashville or disrupt the enjoyment of members’ use of the facilities. A signed lease agreement must be on file and payment must be kept current. Other restrictions may be included in the rental agreement.

Donations

Donations of tools, materials and other personal property must be approved and accepted by the Facilities Manager and/or the Facilities Committee.  Members may not drop off personal property donations without prior approval. While Make Nashville appreciates people’s  good intentions, donations can create serious storage problems for the organization. All  donations should be accompanied by a label or note containing the name and contact information of the donor. Unauthorized donations left at the premises must be retrieved by the donor immediately upon notification. Unauthorized donations that remain onsite 24 hours after notification will be disposed of as MN sees fit, including being shipped back to the member at the member’s expense or considered “Personal Trash” in which case  the rules of the “Trash Disposal” exception will apply.

Trash Disposal

The rubbish bins, trash cans, and dumpster(s) at Make Nashville are for the exclusive use of the organization and are primarily for the disposal of waste materials resulting from members’ projects that are in-progress on the premises. Disposal of “Personal trash” (any trash not produced onsite by a member for the member’s project) is strictly forbidden. Members whose projects produce excessive waste materials or waste that interferes with other members’ use and enjoyment of the facility will be expected to physically minimize their waste products. A member’s continued violation of this Trash Disposal Policy may be referred to the Membership Committee for disciplinary action. Disciplinary action may include, among other remedies, a requirement to contribute financially to the disposal of Personal Trash or, in particularly egregious situations, payment for Make Nashville’s entire weekly dumpster fee.
